Illustrator & Photoshop

18”x24” Poster

The goal of this project was to create an ad for an item or company by using an experimental process. I started this project off by experimenting with different materials and photographing them. I played around with water, wool, yarn, paper, lighting, and more to create interesting compositions. After experimenting and mind mapping, I chose to go in a mixed-media direction by combining painting, embroidery, and digital elements.

I chose the colors and typography based on Cotopaxi’s current branding to keep cohesion between their branding and my ad –. I wanted this ad to look like Cotopaxi released it. Along with that, I chose to go a physical route with embroidery to bring in the textile and clothing aspect of Cotopaxi.

After creating the main typography physically using gouache paint and outlining it in embroidery, I scanned it and created the full ad composition in Illustrator. This ad went through many iterations. I originally wanted to use film photos I have taken to emphasize the adventurous aspect of this brand, but I ended up removing them because they were cluttering the design rather than supporting it. In the end, the collage and textile aspects of this project created an ad for Cotopaxi that feels like part of their brand but is something new and unique as well.
